Review of Westin Langkawi

We decided to go somewhere local for our family holiday this time. I wanted to go somewhere where we can have our own private pool. We finally decided on Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa, a beach resort in Langkawi Island, Kedah, Malaysia.

Beachfront Villa

I booked us the one bedroom beachfront villa with pool. The hotel provides a buggy to take you to the villa from the main lobby. You can always walk – it’s not too far but of course much quicker with the buggy plus the kiddos usually love the buggy rides. The buggy service is quite fast – you don’t have to really wait long for one.

We absolutely loved the villa AND the pool. The villa comes with a living hall, dining hall and a small kitchen.
The living hall opens up to a nice small pool – you can do a few laps here. The depth is up to 1.4m if I recall correctly – just nice for us and the small kiddos. There is a door from the pool area that brings you to the beach. The villa is very private – you feel like you’re in your own world.

Nice living hall - opens up to the pool
Good size kitchen and dining areas
Direct access to the beach from villa
Nice pool size and good depth for kids/adults
Cosy bedroom with a big bathroom

Beach and Pool

The hotel has several swimming pools – the kid’s pool is a good size. We didn’t use the hotel common pools as we had our own pool in the villa, but next time maybe I will just book a normal room as the pool facilities are quite impressive. The hotel has its own private beach. The beach is clean and quiet, nice place to relax. The beach is not the nicest on the island but kids loved it just the same. As we are on the subject of beaches, we did a tour from Kuah that took us to the Pantai Beras Basah which is an uninhabited island – which had a nice white sandy beach with clear water. Since we had a beachfront villa, the boat driver offered to drop us back at our villa after the tour. How cool was that?!

Food

We loved the breakfast. Good buffet spread. You have the usual western options like eggs, sausages, pancakes and of course local food like my favourite nasi lemak — excellent service from the restaurant staff.
We tried a few of the restaurants for dinner/lunch. The food was quite nice; the local cuisines were better than the Western options I feel. But the pizza was not bad – we ordered that twice during our three nights stay.

Spa

I managed to squeeze in an evening spa session on my short trip. Almost didn’t make it. It was nice. Got picked up at my villa on a buggy to the spa at the end of the resort. It was super relaxing didn’t want it to end – did a body scrub and massage.i

Service

Everyone was super nice – we felt very welcomed. From the driver who picked us up at the airport, to the concierge team who handled our bags/buggy pickups, to the reception, housekeeping team, the restaurant staff, the spa team – practically almost everyone we met were very friendly and attentive to our needs.

Nearby Activities

To sum it up...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Westin. The villa was beautiful and having your own pool is so convenient. The kids dreaded when it was time to check out. I would definitely recommend the hotel for families and couples. If you can afford to splurge – and prefer a bit more exclusive setting, you can check out Westin’s “sister” resort next door, St Regis Langkawi.
